Our students had the chance to assume the roles of members of parliament in December as part of the Democracy Games organized by the Hungarian Parliament in the Upper House assembly hall.
Twenty of our students assumed the roles of MPs and got to experience first hand what parliamentary work is like: they took part in a model committee, plenary and faction meeting. They also had a chance try the voting system of the Upper House, and to hold a press conference at the end.
The goal of the program is to raise the students' awareness and involvement in legislative and representative work. The long term goal is to get students interested in public policy: they should have the courage to express their opinions and engage in cultured dialogue regarding the topics that affect them.
