We can conclude that this year many new and hard things were presented to 7th grade, and with hard work they were met. Some topics more than others, however they will be revisited next year in more detail and difficulty. The summer is a great time to read and relax, and with renewed energy the students will embark 8th grade. You worked hard now rest and enjoy the summer! See you in the fall.

The students are working  very hard, as every week we battle a set of 20 new words. As the year progresses the sets of words are becoming harder and harder. They take the task with ease.
Writing class is very interesting as we write about many different things. Poems, perssuasive writing, Medieval stories, discriptive essays are just a few , which we share and present to each other.

Our second trimester kicked off with a play rehearsal. Students seemed rather enthusiastic in producing a play, so we all read a few plays and everyone submitted their favorite. We all read each script and than chose the class favorite through voting. Everyone chose the role or roles they fancied and we started rehearsing. After a few weeks, however we realized that some students needed more time to learn their roles and therefore suspended rehearsals for nearly two months, until everyone would learn their part by heart. In the meantime we started watching and discussing one of the greatest (and longest) classics The Ten Commandments. We are going to finish the film just before Pesach, which gives an excellent preparation for the holiday

After our radio show we continued our venture into digital media. First we dealt with advertisement and created our own imaginary product ideas and we chose one to produce. We discussed various parts of the commercial, wrote the script and prepared necessary props for the short add. Shooting the scenes were lots of fun and when it was over it was followed by the laborious editing phase and concluded with subtitling.
Students got so excited about shooting films that they right away attempted to put together a hidden camera prank. We discussed all obstacles that they might face, nonetheless, it still took them quite a few weeks until they managed to record a few scenes that could be used for our short film. Right now we are in the editing phase of this project, while some students are already planning their next commercial.

Third graders’ village project kept us busy for most part of the second half, from designing the map to the official monetary funds. In all, it has been a great and creative year. Savannah sunsets, fruits in a picture, animals are just some of the many projects we developed. The techniques are becoming harder as the year progresses, and the kids are mastering each one of them. We are trying to lure spring into showing up earlier, by making a more colorful and happier version of snowflakes, called springflakes. It worked, springs is finally here.

During the second trimester of the year we continued to thrive and develop in spoken and written English as well. We learned several new songs and games. We have been working on our spelling and phonetic awareness through games and exercises in the books and through playful activities. We kept recording highlights of our lives in the journals on regular bases. Students showed great in interest in astronomy and our solar system so we did some research on the Sun and on planets of our solar system. The project culminated in the creation of a board game that was constructed by students. We had question cards and surprise cards written by students that formed integral part of the game and once it was all completed children seemed to take pleasure in playing this board game.

Recently we produced a play for Purim. We brought to light the Story of Esther the Balloon Tester from a slightly different perspective. Students were amazing all through the rehearsals, however the final production was less successful due to technical difficulties. Nonetheless, children enjoyed acting and did a fantastic job in improvising and acting when needed.
We will keep reading shorter stories and chapter books in class and as homework too, and we are going to work on our writing skills as well for the rest of the school-year.

Exploring colors and different shades of a particular color, started our term. Cutting and gluing were just a few skills of the many techniques we applied. We illustrated winter, spring and their environments. Coloring is still a technique we continue using, however it was the favorite one. Next we will improve further our fine motor skills, and continue painting . 3D shapes are amongst some of the future projects.

What’s been going in the Fabulous First Grade…..
It has been a very busy time. The first graders have been learning about Dinosaurs and the adventures of Jack and Annie as we have been reading ’Dinosaurs Before Dark’ by Mary Pope Osborne.
We have been learning that stories have a beginning, middle and an end and that sentences begin with Capital letters and end in periods. We have also learnt that sentences must make sense and that they are a complete thought.

2012

2012. december 17.

Students in grade 7 E+ have been working hard since the beginning of this school year. We have been enjoying our new books for spelling and grammar, and especially the latest addition to our study program - a wonderful book for improving all English skills, from the Wordly Wise series. In addition, 7th graders have been reading a great book, "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" - and encountering a very different way to grow up during World War II.... In conclusion, it has been a dynamic and productive first trimester so far!

2012. december 14.

6th graders are off to a good start on their road to knowledge this year! Ever since the school year began, we have been working diligently, learning new vocabulary, structure and speaking skills. On top of that, we have been enjoying a wonderful book, "Boy", about the adventurous childhood of our favorite author, Roald Dahl. Reading skills and comprehension are comng along nicely as well, due to the weekly practice through comprehension questions and reading with dramatic purpose.

2012. december 14.

A dynamic and fun beginning of the year for 5th graders! We have started the year with new spelling, phonics, and grammar books, as well as with the new reading book - The BFG. So far we have covered a lot of new vocabulary in spelling, new structure in writing, and we have practiced reading skills as well as worked on weekly comprehension questions related to the reading material. All the students are making a steady and continuous progress and we hope to keep up the good work in the future as well!

From phonics we dealt with consonants having more than one sound and consonant and vowel combinations. Students learned how use a spell-check and a few basic computer functions that are necessary for word processing. We played a number of games and engaged in a wide variety of activities connected to the subject.
In terms of grammatical awareness we examined various parts of speech. We learned about different types of nouns and pronouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives.
Students received periodic feedback on their progress through quizzes and homework assignments.

This year's project started with a rather serious undertaking about social justice and freedom of children. Thoughtful and lively discussions took place in class where great many important issues were raised. Following that we ran a short assignment about media awareness, media literacy and privacy of information on the net. Students used interactive educational computer games to learn about these concepts. Our third mission was a radio broadcast. Students discussed and collected the content of the radio show. They did a public survey in all elementary classes to find out more about the interests of fellow students. They collected interesting pieces of news about a wide range of topics, wrote and edited their texts and finally recorded it in a studio.
